Community Speaker Program:

The SBMA Docent Council has developed a Community Speakers Program designed to offer presentations to community groups throughout Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties on a variety of topics pertaining to the Santa Barbara Museum of Art’s special exhibitions and collections. Presentations are constructed thematically to provide comparison, contrast, context, and historical background. These interesting and dynamic presentations enhance the listeners’ appreciation of the Museum and its current exhibitions.

The goal of the Speakers Program is to promote SBMA and its mission, while encouraging listeners to visit the Museum. The Speakers Program reaches beyond the Museum walls, to bring art appreciation, enrichment and education to the community. The SBMA Docent Council has a longstanding tradition of excellence in education, by imparting enthusiastic and expertly crafted Museum tours. The Community Speakers Program offers the same enthusiasm, professionalism, and expertise to our community groups.

The presentation being offered will bring greater understanding and appreciation to current SBMA exhibitions and related genres of art. Current offerings include: Degas to Chagall: Important Loans from the Armand Hammer Foundation, Pleasure and Piety: Italian Paintings from the Renaissance to the Baroque, and The Paintings of Moholy-Nagy: The Shape of Things to Come. Please contact Kathryn Padgett at docents@sbma.net if you wish to schedule a presentation for your community group.
